“This weekend was exactly what we needed….”
The Connect Retreat is a Marriage Retreat for prospective and current adoptive/foster parents. It started 2 years ago after one particularly rough night with our teenagers. Jeremy and I lay in the dark, I’m exhausted and already asleep, but he was ecstatic over how he handled the night. Honestly, he nailed it. He was awesome with our teens in dealing with whatever was going on. As I’m heading into a deeper sleep, Jeremy suddenly exclaims, “We should plan a retreat!” Suddenly, I’M AWAKE. We laugh at ourselves at how we have had one good night and the next thing we do is start planning a retreat for adoptive/foster parents…because they probably understand.
That first retreat was in 2017 and we just got back from the second retreat a few weeks ago. We combined one of our favorite places, Pine Cove, with some of our favorite people leading us through the weekend. Jason and Stephanie Beams lead worship and we had two gifted speakers, Travis Jones and Robby Pollard, that facilitated engaging sessions. Read more about each of our facilitators here.
The weekend is designed for you to be encouraged and refreshed. Not only do you have time to connect with others through interactive sessions and sharing meals, you have plenty of free time too. Pine Cove Bluffs is located just outside Tyler, Texas on Lake Palestine. You can enjoy the scenery, zip-line, nap, play games, read, or just chat with other couples in your down time. Take a look at a typical weekend schedule here.
Plans are underway for the Connect Retreat taking place January 25-27, 2019. Save the date and plan to join us! Registration will open later this year.
If you still have questions, check out what guests shared about this year’s retreat…
“Once again we left so encouraged in how to strengthen our family relationships. Thank you Travis and Jennifer Jones for reminding us of the importance of speaking our spouse’s love language. Thank you Jason and Stephanie Beams for leading us in worship. Thank you Robby and Leslie Pollard for your sermon on faith-you served us up a big helping of Hope! Loved reconnecting with most of our original group as well as meeting new couples… Can’t wait to come back next year!!!”
“I was challenged, encouraged and humbled by their stories and the challenges we all face as adoptive families. We prayed together. We hurt together. We cried together. We encouraged one another. We came with some feelings of regret, but now, we are walking forward together.”
“We really enjoyed connecting with you all and hearing each of your stories! It’s so great to know that we aren’t in this alone!! We hope to see you all again next year!”
“This weekend was exactly what we needed and at exactly the right time, even though it seemed like the wrong time. To everyone—thank you just isn’t enough. The spirit of openness and camaraderie was only possible through the leading of the Holy Spirit and the surrender of 16 families. Thank you for your vulnerability and desire to connect.”
